Bloody Merle

as seen on episode “TOPO Distillery”, season 3

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Horseradish and celery root macerated TOPO vodka (recipe follows)
  • Bloody Merle mix (recipe follows)
  • Pickle for garnish

Directions:

Pack a pilsner glass with ice. Add TOPO horseradish & celery root vodka. Top with Bloody Merle mix or Bloody Mary mix of your choice. Garnish with pickles from the summer!

Vodka Maceration:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups celery root, cut into large matchsticks
  • 6 , 1/2″ wheels of horseradish roots, cut into matchsticks
  • 750 ml TOPO vodka

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a flanged glass bottle and shake to incorporate. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 2 weeks, maceration will be usable in 5 days. Macerated Vodka will keep up to one year.

Bloody Merle Mix:

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups canned tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 4 oz each: Worcestershire, soy sauce, lemon juice, olive brine, pickle brine (bread & butter)
  • 2 cups ham broth (simmer 2 1/2 cups chicken stock with 1 cup cubed ham for 2 minutes)
  • 3 oz lime juice
  • 3 tbsp prepared horseradish
  • 2 tbsp hot sauce (Tabasco-type)
  • 1 tbsp each: granulated garlic, granulated onion

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a large container and blend well with stick mixer (blender or food processor will also work)
