Sweet Onion Jam

Flavor, NC | Sweet Onion Jam


  • 2 TBL unsalted butter
  • 3 large sweet onions cut into ½ inch dice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1/2 cup sherry vinegar
  • ½ cup Amarena cherry syrup


  1. Add butter and onions to a large sauté pan over medium heat and cook until soft and translucent, about 10-12 minutes
  2. Add sugar, wine, sherry vinegar, and cherry syrup
  3. Cook over low heat stirring frequently until reduced by half or until the liquid coats the back of a spoon.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  5. Serve with cheese plates, biscuits, or grilled meats, especially beef (recommended, hanger steak).
